Violent Clashes in Turin: Police Officer Attacked with Hammer

Tensions and violent clashes erupted in Turin, with a police officer being attacked by protesters. According to Italian media, the officer was struck with a hammer and taken to the hospital. His condition is not considered life-threatening.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the incidents, calling them "serious and unacceptable." In a post on X, Meloni stated that the eviction of the Askatasuna social center was used as a pretext for violence and attacks. "The images of the attacked police officer speak for themselves: we are not faced with protesters, but with individuals acting as enemies of the state," Meloni said.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella expressed his solidarity with the injured police officer and the other members of the police forces.
Italian media reports that approximately thirty people were injured and ten protesters were detained.
