Chania: Heightened Security at 57-Year-Old's Funeral
Unprecedented security measures, including a metal detector, were implemented at the funeral of 56-year-old Evangelia Fragiadakis in Chania, who was killed in the bloody conflict in Vorizia.
A search with an explosives detection dog preceded the ceremony in the courtyard and inside the church. Dozens of police officers were stationed around the perimeter of the church and on the surrounding streets.
The body of the 56-year-old, who worked as a nurse at the Chania hospital, was transferred to the Holy Church of the Holy Cross, where a large crowd gathered. The burial will take place in the Alikianos cemetery, next to her husband.
Her relatives asked for the cycle of blood to stop and for an end to be put to the vendetta shaking Crete.
