Share on:

A serious incident occurred at a migrant detention center in Chania, resulting in injuries to at least 12 people. The incident took place in Agia, Crete.

According to reports, the cause of the incident was a dispute over a jacket, which escalated into a widespread clash. The Deputy Mayor of Social Policy, Eleni Zervoudaki, confirmed the event.

Twelve people were transferred to Chania Hospital by ambulance. There are more than 470 migrants in the detention center, waiting to be transferred to other detention centers. Delays in transfers are due to the fullness of detention centers in Malakasa and northern Greece.

The migrants in Agia arrived in Crete via Gavdos and mainly come from Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan, and Sudan.
