Risk Assessment Committee Meets: Heatwave and Strong Winds This Weekend

The Risk Assessment Committee, under the General Secretary of Civil Protection, Nikos Papaefstathiou, convened due to high temperatures and strong winds expected over the weekend.

According to scientists, a moderate heatwave is expected today, Thursday, and tomorrow, Friday, with temperatures of 39-41 degrees Celsius in the mainland and 36-38 degrees Celsius in the islands. Nighttime temperatures will range from 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, reaching 30 degrees Celsius locally in Attica.

A recession of the heatwave is expected over the weekend, but northern winds will strengthen. On Saturday, winds in the Aegean will reach 7 Beaufort, and on Sunday in the Cyclades, Crete, Eastern Aegean, and Dodecanese, they will reach 8 Beaufort with gusts of 9 Beaufort.

Additionally, incidents such as the fire in Palaia Fokaia and an episode in Vyronas were mentioned.
