Cost of Living: Global Index and Greece's Comparison

Inflation remains a significant issue in Greece, impacting household purchasing power. Despite the decline in inflation, increased prices for essential goods and housing costs have reduced the financial comfort of Greeks.
According to surveys, more than 6 in 10 households struggle to cover their monthly needs, while 72% are forced to cut other expenses. Greek consumers appear to be the most pessimistic in the EU.
Numbeo's global cost of living index ranks Greece in the top fifty countries (out of 143). The Cayman Islands, Switzerland, and Singapore top the list. On the other hand, Pakistan, Libya, and Afghanistan have the lowest cost of living.
A Deutsche Bank survey shows that Athens is the third most expensive city globally for utilities and one of the most expensive for renting a home relative to Greek salaries. Other surveys confirm that Athens remains one of the least affordable European capitals.
