The high cost of living is forcing many residents of Athens to stay in the city and forgo vacations. The increased cost of accommodation and transportation makes the option of holidays prohibitive for many.

Despite August being the traditional vacation month, many Greeks will remain in urban centers due to financial pressures and professional obligations. They seek entertainment in the few open shops and in their homes.

One citizen told MEGA: "I haven't been on vacation since 2007. That says it all. Everything is very expensive." Another added that they would be limited to "only 1-2 days."

High prices for ferry tickets and accommodation significantly burden the family budget, limiting opportunities for recreation. According to surveys, one in two Greeks will not go on vacation this year due to financial obligations and increased costs.

As an alternative, day trips to nearby beaches or short trips for the luckier ones are suggested, with the aim of relaxation and preparation for September.
