The countdown is on for the announcement of the results of the 2025 pan-European stress test. The European Banking Authority (EBA) has announced that the results, including individual results for participating banks, will be published next Friday afternoon.

The adverse scenario of the exercise assumes the materialization of the main risks identified by the European Systemic Risk Board in the fourth quarter of 2024, as well as risk assessments by the EBA and the European Central Bank.

In Greece, Eurobank is not included in the sample due to the acquisition of Hellenic Bank of Cyprus and the merger of Eurobank Cyprus – Hellenic. The participating banks are National Bank of Greece, Piraeus Bank, and Alpha Bank. The exercise, which began in January 2025, assesses the solvency of EU banks under a hypothetical adverse macroeconomic scenario for the period 2025-27.

The objectives of the stress test are to assess the overall resilience of EU banks to severe economic shocks, to assess whether banks' capital levels are sufficient, and to enhance market discipline through the publication of transparent data.

The pan-European stress test is conducted on a sample of 64 banks, covering approximately 75% of the total assets of the banking sector in the EU and Norway.
