EFKA: Extra Contributions Notices to 200,000 Professionals

Approximately 200,000 self-employed insured individuals will receive notices from EFKA to pay additional insurance contributions for 2024.
These insured individuals, who had both salaried and self-employed work in 2024, will be required to pay the additional contributions in six monthly installments, with the first installment due by July 31, 2025.
The process of clearing insurance contributions for 2024 was completed earlier than any other year, thus accelerating the start of the installment payments, which will be completed by the end of the year.
A similar process was implemented in 2024, when 216,443 insured individuals were asked to pay additional contributions. These insured individuals mainly come from the former IKA and the former OAEE – TEBE.
This process was established in 2020 with the "Vroutsis Law" (N. 4670), which introduced the decoupling of insurance contributions from declared income and their determination based on the insurance categories.
In the case of parallel salaried employment, contributions from salaried employment are taken into account, and the difference is paid if it is less than the minimum contribution of the insurance category. If the insured person has paid higher contributions, a refund or offset will be made.
In 2024, the total amount owed by the 216,443 self-employed individuals amounted to 149,435,723 euros, with the average installment being 115 euros.
Debtors will be notified via email of the exact amount of the additional contribution.
