US Enters Greek Logistics Market via Gonou and Thriasio
Share on:

The US Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has expressed interest in the logistics sector in Greece, focusing on the utilization of the former Gonou military camp in Thessaloniki and Thriasio Field. The DFC signed a Letter of Intent with Goldair Cargo for Gonou, a strategically important project due to its proximity to the port of Thessaloniki (OLTH), which could make Thessaloniki an alternative gateway to the European market and for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

The project in Gonou, owned by GAIAOSE, is in the competitive dialogue stage and has attracted strong Greek groups. The leader in the scheme is Goldair Cargo, in cooperation with Aktor and the Fourli Group. The preferred investor will undertake the design, construction, financing, operation, and exploitation of the business park for 30 years, with a budget of approximately 260 million euros.

For the United States, Gonou is part of a broader strategic plan to develop a parallel logistics system that will act as a counterweight to Chinese and Russian control of key Greek ports.
