Greece Ratifies Energy Agreement with Chevron & HELLENiQ Energy for Hydrocarbons

The Greek Parliament ratified the energy agreement between Greece and the Chevron & HELLENiQ Energy consortium for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons south of Crete and the Peloponnese.

Minister of Energy and Environment, Stavros Papastavrou, called the agreement a "historic moment" and a "leap for the exploitation of the country's energy wealth." He also emphasized that the government worked hard to accelerate licensing and research procedures.

All opposition parties voted against the two articles of the Agreements for Southern Crete, expressing concerns about safeguarding sovereign rights in the area.
