EOPYY: €12 Million in Illegal Prescriptions – Investigation into Doctors and Pharmacies

A new fraud amounting to €12 million has been uncovered by the audits of the Pharmaceutical Directorate of EOPYY, with doctors and pharmacists involved in illegal prescriptions.

The governor of EOPYY, Theano Karpodini, announced that fines of €98,500 have been imposed on 30 doctors and 62 pharmacies for irregularities. Additionally, 10 doctors and 80 pharmacists are under investigation by the Financial Police.

According to EOPYY, the Pharmaceutical Directorate presented the results of the October compliance checks, with damages assessed at approximately €12 million. The Organization is aware of the three cases filed by the Financial Police.

Reference was also made to the Home Delivery Service for High-Cost Medicines, which has delivered medicines to 141,047 patients.

It is recalled that a scandal of €3.5 million had preceded it in September, and the detection of a ring of illegal prescriptions earlier in the year.
