Eurostat: Highest Rate of Subjective Poverty in Greece in the EU

According to Eurostat data for 2024, Greece recorded the highest rate of subjective poverty (66.8%) among EU countries. The corresponding rate for the entire EU was 17.4%, down from 19.1% in 2023.
The highest rates of subjective poverty in the EU, after Greece, were recorded in Bulgaria (37.4%) and Slovakia (28.7%). Conversely, the lowest rates were observed in the Netherlands and Germany (7.3% each), as well as in Luxembourg (8.5%).
In 2024, the highest rate of subjective poverty was observed among minors under 18 years of age (20.6%). In the 18 to 64 age group, the rate was 17.3%, while among those over 65, it reached 14.9%.
All age groups saw a decrease compared to 2023. The largest decrease was recorded in the 18-64 age group, by 1.8 percentage points.
The rates of subjective poverty in Greece in previous years were: 2015 (77.7%), 2016 (76.8%), 2017 (77.2%), 2018 (74.1%), 2019 (71%), 2020 (69.8%), 2022 (68.4%), and 2023 (67%).
