Strike Ends at Ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa

The strike at the ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa has ended following an agreement between workers and shipowners.
Specifically, the Association of Passenger Shipping Companies (SEEN) and the Panhellenic Seamen's Federation (PENEN) reached an agreement to end the strike on Greek-flagged ships operating on the Greece-Italy route. The agreement was unanimously ratified by the strikers, following a proposal by the President of PENEN.
The agreement includes, among other things, the possibility for captains to dismiss sailors for leave, with the possibility of re-employment after the leave expires, as well as the establishment of a minimum number of trucks per ship for the payment of mooring allowance. As PENEN reports, the agreement regulates institutional, economic and sectoral problems that were at the heart of the 10-day strike.
In its announcement, PENEN emphasizes that the sector returns to the ships and to work "with their heads held high, proud and victorious."
