Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that Greece is considering the use of small modular reactors (SMRs) for energy production. The statement was made during the 2nd Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris.

Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that Greece is a "friend of nuclear energy" and wishes to participate in the European dialogue on its future. He mentioned that Greece has turned to renewable energy sources (RES), with over 50% of the energy produced coming from solar and wind power, transforming the country into an electricity exporter.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister estimated that Europe will hardly achieve its goals for strategic autonomy, energy security, and competitiveness without nuclear energy, while emphasizing that public opinion in Greece is divided and dialogue is needed.
