The government is announcing measures to combat profiteering on supermarket shelves and fuel pumps, due to the consequences of the war.

According to confirmed information, announcements are expected today or tomorrow, Thursday. Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet with Kostas Tasoulas at the Presidential Palace.

The measures include a cap on the profit margin of refineries and supermarkets. For fuels, the cap will be twofold: on sales from the refinery to the dealer and from the gas station to the consumer. The reintroduction of direct subsidies to refineries for diesel fuel is also being considered.

Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis stated that the government has a complete picture of the market and will proceed with the necessary interventions to prevent profiteering.

Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis mentioned that there is a general understanding that the war will have no winners and that we may be in a phase of relative de-escalation.

The announcements are expected to be made by Ministers Takis Theodorikakos and Stavros Papastavrou.
