Primary Surplus of €2.99 Billion in First Two Months of 2026

The state budget recorded a primary surplus of €2.99 billion in the first two months of 2026, according to provisional data. This amount is 53% higher than the target.
Specifically, the primary result was a surplus of €2.994 billion, compared to a target of €1.957 billion. The overall balance showed a surplus of €902 million, instead of a deficit of €97 million as projected in the budget.
Expenditure amounted to €11.088 billion, €1.122 billion lower than the target, due to the transfer of payments for arms programs and delays in capital transfers. Net revenue amounted to €11.99 billion, €124 million below the target, mainly due to lower tax revenue from energy products.
January 2026 revenues included amounts from the completion of the Egnatia Odos Concession Agreement.
