Thessaloniki: 8 in 10 Craftsmen Report Job Vacancies

Almost eight in ten craftsmen in Thessaloniki (75%) report job vacancies in their businesses, according to the July-August Economic Barometer of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Crafts (ΒΕΘ). Five in ten find it difficult to fill their needs for technical staff.
When asked about the number of vacancies, 72% reported one to two, 20% three to five, and 8% more.
The greatest difficulties are found in the specialties of craftsmen (51%), unskilled workers (14%), salespeople (8%), marketing department employees (4%), and IT/accounting (3%).
37% of respondents reported difficulty in finding workers in construction trades, 22% in car repair shops, and 15% in bakeries-pastry shops.
Regarding the reasons why positions remain vacant, 45% answered that there is a lack of interest, 19% referred to low wages, and 9% to a lack of qualifications.
Almost half of the craftsmen (46%) consider the state of their businesses satisfactory, while 53% believe that the situation will remain the same in the next six months.
