112 Alert: Severe Weather Warning for Northern Greece and Islands

A 112 alert has been issued for severe rainfall and thunderstorms in areas of Northern Greece and several islands. The message is addressed to residents of Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Serres, and Lemnos.

Authorities are urging citizens to be particularly careful during their travels amidst the severe weather conditions, which are expected to last from Thursday evening until Friday noon.

Due to the weather conditions, schools in Rhodes and Zakynthos will remain closed on Friday.

Additionally, flooding was reported in Aitoliko, where roads and homes sustained damage. The Fire Department intervened to rescue elderly residents and pump water.

In Athens, a tree was uprooted on Emmanouil Benaki Street, seriously injuring a passerby. The Fire Department Operations Center received dozens of calls for assistance.
