Drone Use Prohibited in Fire-Affected Areas

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) has issued a flight safety update, reminding that drone use is prohibited in areas affected by fires, unless authorized and coordinated with the competent authorities.
Uncontrolled flight can interfere with aerial firefighting operations and endanger human lives. Special attention is required due to strong winds, which can affect the spread of fire.
The HCAA has authorized the use of UAVs for fire prevention and detection at approximately 150 locations, under Civil Protection.
Operators are urged to study the HCAA Information Bulletin and implement the guidelines for safety and environmental protection.
