Athens: Road Camera Installation Delayed
Share on:

The installation of 388 surveillance cameras at dangerous road junctions in Attica is expected to be delayed, with a possible start in early 2026. The delay is due to problems with the contractor, which has been fined approximately 90,000 euros.

The contract, worth 17,567,000 euros and funded by the Recovery Fund, was signed in November 2024. It provided for the installation of cameras at locations such as Syngrou, Vouliagmenis, Katechaki, Mesogeion, Kifissias, Piraeus, and Vasilissis Amalias Avenues.

Attica Region officials assure that the project will be implemented despite the delays. The cameras will operate 24 hours a day and will only record the rear of vehicles to protect personal data.

The 388 cameras are part of a broader plan to install 2,888 cameras throughout the country. The material will be sent to the Hellenic Police, which will impose the prescribed penalties on offenders.
