August Exodus: Heavy Traffic at Piraeus and Thessaloniki Ports

A major exodus from urban centers is underway, with increased traffic at the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki. Ships are departing full for islands and beaches.
According to ERT, over 40,000 passengers departed yesterday from Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio. From the port of Piraeus, 25 ships with 31,000 passengers departed for the Cyclades, Dodecanese, and Crete. Additionally, 53 routes were carried out for the Argo-Saronic.
Nine routes were carried out from Rafina with 8,700 passengers, and fourteen ships departed from Lavrio with 3,900 passengers.
In Thessaloniki, there is increased traffic towards the beaches of Halkidiki and Pieria. 17,500 vehicles exited Thessaloniki from the Malgara toll booths.
Volunteers from the Hellenic Red Cross informed travelers at the port of Piraeus about safe swimming and protection from the heatwave.
39,000 vehicles passed through the Elefsina toll booths and slightly more than 35,000 vehicles through the Afidnes toll booths.
