Elderly Man Rescued from Burning Caravan in Kavala

An elderly man was rescued from a burning caravan outside Kavala, on the old Kavala - Thessaloniki national road, near Pyrgos Apollonias.

A volunteer rescuer, Michalis Altipoulakis, who happened to be passing by, heard the trapped man's cries and intervened. As he told Star, he heard the elderly man shouting "I'm burning, I'm burning".

Altipoulakis, wearing a helmet, mask and gloves, approached the caravan and managed to free him, while also extinguishing a gas cylinder that was near the flames.

The elderly man was initially taken to Kavala Hospital and then to Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki with burns to his hands and body, where he is being treated and is out of danger.
