Firefighting forces are being reinforced in Kythira to combat a fire that broke out in agricultural and forest land in Pitsinades, Kythira, on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The fire does not have an active front, but the reinforcement was deemed necessary due to strong winds in the area, with gusts reaching 9 Beaufort.

According to the Fire Department, 31 firefighters with 2 teams of foot patrols from the 6th and 9th E.MO.D.E. and 9 vehicles are being transported by ferry from Gythio. Additionally, a Fire Investigation Unit (K.A.E.E) has been dispatched to the area to investigate the causes of the fire.

In total, 67 firefighters with 2 teams of foot patrols and 22 vehicles are operating, with the assistance of construction machinery and water trucks from local authorities. 9 aircraft and 3 helicopters participated in the aerial firefighting efforts. Due to a resurgence of the fire, residents were asked to evacuate the areas of Kypritianika, Mitata, and Viaradika via 112.
