Firefighting Forces Reinforced in Kythira Due to Strong Winds

Firefighting forces in Kythira were reinforced overnight due to strong winds in the area. The reinforcement came from Gythio, with 31 firefighters and 9 vehicles being transported by ferry.
The fire broke out in agricultural and forest land on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Pitsinades. Although there is no active front, the reinforcement is considered a precautionary measure due to the expected strong winds, reaching up to 9 Beaufort.
According to the Fire Service, 31 firefighters with 2 teams of foot patrols from the 6th and 9th E.M.O.D.E. and 9 vehicles are being transferred from Gythio. Additionally, a Fire Investigation Unit (K.A.E.E) has been dispatched to the area to investigate the causes of the fire.
It is noted that 67 firefighters with 2 teams of foot patrols and 22 vehicles are operating, with assistance from construction machinery and OTA water trucks. Yesterday, 9 aircraft and 3 helicopters were used for aerial firefighting.
