Evia: Ferry Boat Salvage Operation Begins

The Ministry of Shipping services have begun inspecting the ferry boat "Panagia Paravouniotissa", which ran aground off Nea Styra, Evia. If no contraindications arise, the salvage operation will begin this afternoon.
Necessary preparations have already been made inside the ship to facilitate the inspections. Divers discovered a nearly 20-meter-long rupture in the ferry boat.
Passengers' ordeal continues as their cars remain on board. The 62-year-old captain, detained until Friday, claimed he could not avoid the reef due to a steering malfunction.
There were 105 passengers and 9 crew members on board. All are in good health and were safely transported to the port of Nea Styra.
