Fire at Recycling Plant in Lesbos – 112 Alert Issued

A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Recycling Aegean facility in Lesbos, near Moria. The fire is consuming plastics and other recyclable materials, resulting in black smoke covering the city of Mytilene, which is about 5 km away.
Eight fire trucks and EMODE personnel are participating in the extinguishing efforts. The fire quickly spread due to the flammable materials, causing a power outage.
An alert was sent from 112 warning residents to stay indoors with closed doors and windows and to follow the instructions of the authorities. Areas of Moria have been covered in ashes.
The Commander of the Fire Services of Lesvos – Limnos, Panagiotis Biboudis, stated that the Fire Department is trying to contain the fire to prevent it from spreading to the surrounding fields.
