Keratea Fire: Assessment and Damages

Southeastern Attica is counting its wounds after the devastating fire that broke out in Keratea on Friday (8/8). The fire caused the death of a 76-year-old and serious damage to homes and properties.
Firefighters made superhuman efforts to protect the Sounion National Park, limiting the spread of the fire.
According to the Copernicus service, approximately 15,808 acres were burned, mainly grassland areas. Specifically:
- 11,267 acres of grassland and shrubland
- 2,519 acres of heterogeneous/agricultural land
- 811 acres of other uses
- 643 acres of pasture
In Ilia, the affected area amounts to 7,950 acres, mainly agricultural and forest land.
