Strong Earthquake of 5.3 Richter Scale Hits Epirus, Greece

A strong earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Epirus, Greece, at 05:32 early Sunday morning. According to the Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter was located 12 km east of Leptokarya, Thesprotia, with a focal depth of 12.9 kilometers.
A second tremor, measuring 4.7, was recorded shortly after in the same area, approximately 20 km from Ioannina and near the Albanian border. The quake was felt in Epirus, the Ionian Islands, and Thessaly.
Professor Efthymios Lekkas told ERT that initial data indicates a strong earthquake at a relatively shallow depth. The Governor of Epirus, Alexandros Kahrimanis, reported no immediate reports of damage. A temporary power outage occurred in Ioannina.
