Severe Weather: Southern Suburbs of Attica in Focus

The southern suburbs of Attica are expected to be in the focus of the new severe weather system. According to the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in Attica from the morning of Monday, January 26th. The phenomena will be locally intense and may be accompanied by hailstorms, mainly in the southern parts of Attica.
The Risk Assessment Committee convened and issued an emergency weather warning. Heavy rains are forecast throughout the country, with gale-force winds in the Ionian, the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. In Attica, local rains and thunderstorms are expected from morning to early afternoon.
Theodoros Kolydas and Sakis Arnaoutoglou warn of three successive waves of bad weather, with strong winds and potential problems in ferry services.
In addition to Attica, intense phenomena are also expected in Kavala, Xanthi, Drama and Thasos, as well as in the south of Crete and the southwest of the country.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has put all involved agencies on alert.
