Heatwave: Work Stoppage for Outdoor Activities

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security announced emergency measures to address heat stress for workers in the private sector due to high temperatures. According to the 27.06.2025 circular, a mandatory work stoppage is stipulated for outdoor activities.

In the Regions of Attica and Thessaly, as well as the Regional Units of Kilkis, Serres, Viotia, Argolida, Ilia, and Aitoloakarnania, the work stoppage is in effect on Friday, 27.06.2025, from 12:00 to 17:00. It concerns manual labor performed outdoors, such as technical and construction projects, ship repair zones, distribution of products by two-wheeled vehicles (delivery), etc.

If the work stoppage is applied to delivery services, order taking with pickup from the store (takeaway) and order fulfillment with private and public vehicles equipped with air conditioning are permitted.

For workers belonging to high-risk groups, companies must provide the option of teleworking, if feasible.

In case of non-compliance, a fine of 2,000 euros per employee will be imposed.
