An alert was triggered in Corfu when a Smartwings aircraft, bound for the Czech Republic, experienced a malfunction shortly after takeoff. According to corfutvnews.gr, a loud noise was heard, and flames were observed in the right engine of the Boeing 737 aircraft.

All vehicles of the Airport Fire Service rushed to the scene. The plane circled southern Corfu to burn fuel and was eventually diverted to Preveza Airport. No injuries were reported.

This is the second similar incident in Corfu within a few days. On August 16, an engine of an aircraft bound for Dusseldorf caught fire after takeoff.

Passengers on that flight experienced moments of panic, but the captain assured that he could fly with one engine and landed safely in Brindisi, Italy.
