Colombia: Landslide near MedellĂn Claims 16 Lives

At least 16 people have died in a landslide near MedellĂn, in northwestern Colombia, local authorities announced on Thursday. The governor of Antioquia, AndrĂ©s Julián RendĂłn, confirmed 16 deaths via X, while 8 people are missing.
In the community of Bello, near MedellĂn, rescue teams continue to search for survivors or victims. The mayor of Bello, Lorena González, stated that the ground remains unstable, endangering rescue teams.
The landslide was caused by heavy rains that led to the overflow of a nearby stream. A similar incident occurred in early May in the municipality of Sabaneta, south of MedellĂn, with at least five deaths.
