Coast Guard: €80,000 in Fines for Recreational Watercraft Violations

The Coast Guard imposed €80,000 in fines following 265 violations detected during inspections of recreational watercraft. The inspections, conducted from June to mid-July, revealed deficiencies in safety measures and unlicensed operators.
In total, 3,000 inspections were carried out, with 10% of businesses violating the law. Violations included a lack of life-saving equipment, use of non-conceded beach areas, and a lack of essential equipment such as a pharmacy and anemometer.
Additionally, cases of private recreational craft without life-saving equipment and deficiencies in documents such as speedboat operator licenses were identified. The Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy announced that inspections will continue intensively.
On the other hand, the presence of lifeguards on beaches is positive, with 89% having active lifeguard coverage.
