Major Fire in Kato Asites, Heraklion – Extinguishing Operation Underway

A major fire has been raging since 5 a.m. in Kato Asites in the Municipality of Heraklion.
55 firefighters with a ground unit and 23 vehicles are operating in the area, while two firefighting helicopters are assisting from the air. The Municipality of Heraklion is also participating in the extinguishing effort with machinery and water trucks.
A warning message from 112 was sent at 6 a.m. to the residents of the area, calling on them to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of the authorities. The message specifically mentioned a forest fire in the Kato Asites area of the Heraklion Regional Unit of Crete.
Mayor Alexis Kalokairinos and Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection Manolis Chairetis went to the scene.
The causes of the fire remain unknown.
