Messinia: Firefighter Hospitalized During Firefighting Operation

A firefighter was transported to the hospital in Kalamata after feeling unwell while operating at the fire in Aetos, Messinia, near Kryoneri. According to local media, the firefighter was involved in extinguishing a flare-up in a difficult-to-access area in the Monastiri settlement.

His colleagues transported him to a safe location, where an ambulance from EKAV picked him up. Currently, the fire fronts in the villages of Aetos are receding, while strong Fire Department forces continue to operate to control the fire.

The intervention of the aircraft on Sunday morning was crucial, while a great effort was also made during the night to keep the fire away from the settlements. Fire fronts exist in a large area from the outskirts of Sella to the borders of the Municipalities of Trifylia and Oichalia in Malthi.

A team of Moldovan firefighters arrived in the area to assist in the extinguishing efforts.
