Lifeguard Saves 3-Year-Old Girl in Katakolo

A lifeguard saved a 3-year-old girl from drowning at Kavouri Katakolo beach on Thursday, July 25.

The girl was pulled unconscious from the sea. The 24-year-old lifeguard, Giorgos Nikolopoulos, rushed to the scene and began CPR.

"I ran there immediately, took the child in my arms... I started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)," the lifeguard told iliaenimerosi. "After the first compressions, the child started to release fluids from her mouth and nose..."

After resuscitation, the girl was transported to Pyrgos hospital by ambulance.

Giorgos Nikolopoulos, who has been working as a lifeguard for the second year, said: "I just did my job, I did what I was taught..."
