Patmos: Sewage Treatment Plant Out of Order, Waste in Sea and Taps

Patmos is facing a serious pollution problem as the Sewage Treatment Plant is not functioning properly. Waste is ending up in the sea and, according to reports, even in household taps.
According to Patmiaka Chronika, the malfunction is due to mechanical failures at the treatment plant. Residents report that tankers are emptying sewage into the tanks of the Sewage Treatment Plant, which is then discharged into the sea.
Despite efforts, the problem remains unresolved. Residents of the Hochlakas area are threatening to appeal to the prosecutor. Mayor Nikitas Tsabalakis had assured that the issue would be resolved within two weeks, but this has not happened.
The Port Authority has recorded violations at the facilities. The Municipal Council had decided to impose a fee for the disposal of sewage.
This situation creates an environmental and health problem, affecting the quality of life and the image of the island.
