Tree Falls on Ermou Street Due to Strong Winds

A tree fell on Ermou Street in the center of Athens due to strong winds blowing across many regions of Greece on Thursday (07/08). The incident occurred at the intersection of Ermou and Evangelistrias streets.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The General Secretary of Civil Protection, Nikos Papaefstathiou, convened the Risk Assessment Committee to evaluate the situation.
Scientists predicted northerly winds of force 8 Beaufort, with gusts up to 9, in Eastern Continental Greece, the Central and South Aegean, and Crete. Friday is expected to be the most difficult day, with an increased risk of fires and problems in navigation.
The Municipality of Athens announced that the National Garden will remain closed due to the strong winds.
