Fire in Kythira – Evacuation of Pitsinades Area

A large fire has broken out in agricultural and forest land in the Pitsinades area of Kythira. Shortly after 10:30 a.m., a message was sent from 112 to residents of the area to evacuate.

28 firefighters with a ground team from the 9th EMODE, six fire trucks, volunteers, a helicopter and two aircraft have been mobilized to extinguish the fire.

In addition, seven firefighters from the 6th EMODE departed by ferry from Neapoli, Laconia to reinforce the ground forces on the island.
