Major Fire in Kefalonia: Villages Evacuated Near Argostoli

A major fire is underway in Kefalonia, in the Karavados area, near Argostoli. Authorities have evacuated the villages of Karavados, Dorizata, and Keramies, with a 112 message urging residents to evacuate towards Argostoli.

Strong firefighting forces are operating in the area, including 28 firefighters with 2 teams of the 16th EMODE, 7 vehicles, volunteers, 4 aircraft, and 2 helicopters. Water trucks from local authorities are also assisting.

The Mayor of Argostoli, Theofilos Michalatos, stated that they suspect arson, as three different outbreaks occurred. According to meteo, winds of up to 4 Beaufort are blowing in the area.

The 112 message stated: "Forest fire in the #Karavados area of the Regional Unit of #Kefalonia. If you are in the areas of #Karavados #Dorizata and #Keramies evacuate towards #Argostoli!"
