5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Crete: Seismologists' Reports

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Lasithi, Crete, at 06:30 this morning, causing concern among residents. The earthquake was felt in areas of the southern coast of the island, as well as on other islands.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake occurred in the sea area 7 kilometers southwest of Goudouras, Lasithi, with a focal depth of 5 kilometers.
The Mayor of Sitia, Giorgos Zervakis, reported that the earthquake was strong and lasted for a considerable time, causing concern among residents. The Mayor of Ierapetra, Manolis Fragoulis, advised citizens to remain calm.
Vasilis Karastathis, director of the Geodynamic Institute, stated that there had been a foreshock sequence since April 14 and that there was an alert for the area. Seismologist Akis Tselentis reassured the public, emphasizing that the phenomenon was expected and advised against swimming due to possible small sea seismic waves.
So far, there have been no reports of damage.
