Achaia Meeting on Sheep and Goat Pox: Decisions and Measures

A meeting was held in Achaia to address the sheep and goat pox outbreak, focusing on the regions of Achaia and Aetolia-Acarnania. The General Secretary of Agricultural Development and Food, Spyros Protopsaltis, emphasized the importance of implementing measures such as disinfection stations, strict biosecurity, and proper feed management.
Specific actions were agreed upon, including intensified controls, operation of disinfection stations, proper feed management, rapid culling of infected herds within 72 hours, a new round of information on biosecurity measures, and referral to prosecutorial authorities for illegal vaccines.
Spyros Protopsaltis stated that the goal is to avoid a temporary "lockdown" on the movement of animals and feed, calling on farmers to follow the instructions. The Deputy Regional Governor of Agricultural Development, Andreas Filias, stressed the importance of cooperation between farmers and authorities.
In addition, it was decided to expedite compensation for those who meet the requirements, while it was emphasized that no compensation will be paid to farms that are not registered in the registers or do not apply biosecurity measures.
