Samaria Gorge Rescue: Tourist Injured, Overnight Operation

An overnight rescue operation successfully concluded for a foreign tourist injured in the Samaria Gorge in Chania. The Fire Department's Operations Center was notified on Sunday evening about the injury in a remote location near Agia Roumeli.

A search and rescue team consisting of six firefighters and members of the Mountain Rescue Team (O.O.E.D.) of the 3rd E.M.A.K. was immediately mobilized. The injured tourist was located and transported to an accessible point, then transferred by boat to the port of Chora Sfakion, where an ambulance of E.K.A.V. took him to the hospital. The operation was completed in the early hours of Monday.
