Hortiatis: Day of Remembrance for Holocaust Victims

The Municipality of Pylaia-Hortiatis commemorated the victims of the Holocaust of September 2, 1944, with events and a memorial service. Mayor Ignatios Kaitetzidis emphasized the importance of Hortiatis as a global symbol of peace and democracy.
The Hierarchical Memorial Service was held at the Byzantine Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, presided over by the Metropolitan of Neapolis & Stavroupolis, Mr. Barnabas, who conveyed the wishes of Ecumenical Patriarch Mr. Bartholomew. This was followed by a Trisagion service at the Holocaust Victims Monument.
The memorial events were attended by representatives of the government, parliament, parties, security forces, mayors of martyred cities, and representatives of consular authorities.
The three-day events included a historical walk, a peace cycling race, a theatrical performance, a conference on the Liberation Route of Europe program, a peace torch relay, and a concert.
