Antonis Samaras: Heartfelt Farewell to Dimitris Stamatis

Antonis Samaras bid a deeply emotional farewell to Dimitris Stamatis, one of his closest associates, following the news of his death at the age of 75.

In a statement, the former Prime Minister said: "Goodbye, my Dimitris! You left as you lived. Proud, upright, honest, a fighter. You were always a great and selfless Patriot. Goodbye Friend! Goodbye Brother!".

Dimitris Stamatis was born in Thessaloniki and studied at the Law School of the Aristotle University. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki A with New Democracy in 1985. He also served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Secretary General of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

On June 21, 2012, he was sworn in as Minister of State in the government of Antonis Samaras.
