Former ND Minister Dimitris Stamatis Passes Away

Dimitris Stamatis, former minister and member of parliament for New Democracy (ND), has passed away at the age of 75. He had also served as president of the Consignments and Loans Fund.

Dimitrios Stamatis was born in Thessaloniki. He studied at the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and practiced law.

He was first elected MP for Thessaloniki A with ND in 1985 and remained until 1993. He served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, as well as Secretary General of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (2005-2009). In 2012, he was sworn in as Minister of State in the tripartite government of ND, PASOK and DIMAR.

In the January 2015 elections, he was a candidate on the ND national list.
