D. Kalamatianos: Criticism of private universities

The SYRIZA-PS education spokesperson, Dionysis Kalamatianos, has criticized the government regarding private universities, arguing that many of them do not meet the requirements.
Mr. Kalamatianos stated that foreign universities did not rush to establish branches in Greece, as the government claimed. He also pointed out that many applications from foreign educational institutions were rejected and that the institutions that received a license are already collaborating with colleges in Greece.
SYRIZA-PS argues that the law on private universities allows colleges to operate as higher education institutions, privatizing higher education. Mr. Kalamatianos added that the government, with the implementation of the Minimum Admission Base, has created a pool of student-clients.
In conclusion, Mr. Kalamatianos stated that education cannot be a commodity, but a right, and that SYRIZA-PS will fight to defend the public university and equal access to knowledge.
