Tempi Trial: Chaos and Interruptions Due to Unsuitable Courtroom
Share on:

Chaos prevailed at the start of the trial for the Tempi tragedy, with many victims' relatives and lawyers unable to fit into the courtroom at the "Gaiopolis" conference center at the University of Thessaly. The presiding judge interrupted the session four times due to strong protests.

Lawyers for both the defense and the prosecution requested that the trial be held in another courtroom, calling the process a "fiasco." They even threatened to abstain from their duties, while the victims' families left open the possibility of withdrawing from the trial.

The next hearing was scheduled for April 1st, with the issue of the courtroom remaining open. The Ministry of Justice claims that the hall has a capacity of 450 seats and the problems will be resolved by the next hearing. However, lawyers remain pessimistic.

Many relatives are asking for a change of courtroom, pointing out that they do not want to delay the process, but to conduct it with dignified conditions.
