Athens Bar Association Condemns Targeting of Lawyer as Undermining Fair Trial

The Athens Bar Association (DSA) has issued a statement condemning the targeting of a lawyer, characterizing it as undermining the right to a fair trial. The announcement was prompted by the writing of abusive slogans at the entrance of an apartment building housing the offices of a criminal lawyer in Athens.

In its statement, the DSA emphasizes that such actions are "openly condemned by the entire legal community" and that the targeting of a lawyer "undermines the free exercise of the defense function, which is inextricably linked to the right to a fair trial."

The DSA points out that a lawyer, as a co-worker of Justice, enjoys full independence in the performance of his duties and cannot be identified with his client or targeted for the case he is handling.
