Evictions: Changes for tenants and their rights

Changes to the eviction process and tenants' rights are being discussed, with the president of POMIDA, Stratos Paradias, expressing satisfaction with the upcoming changes to leases. As he stated on ERT, the changes restore a "long-standing injustice" against property owners, allowing them to regain possession of their properties more effectively after the lease expires.
Mr. Paradias emphasized that the changes do not affect the duration of existing lease agreements. He explained that a landlord must notify the tenant in writing, giving them a three-month deadline to return the property. If the tenant does not comply, the landlord can resort to legal action.
According to Mr. Paradias, the system automatically provides a six-month protection to the tenant, without cost or legal representation. If more time is needed, the tenant can file an appeal and request an extension, citing specific reasons.
Mr. Paradias clarified that there is a differentiation between the procedures for consistent and non-paying tenants, with consistent tenants receiving longer deadlines and protection.
